For video equipment like this years ago, I might have had to go into a considerably longer review describing quality, adjustments, usability and other factors. This camcorder makes all of that much more simple.
First, the most important thing. This unit records excellent HD images. While bright sunlight (not facing the sun) is ideal, you'll come out just fine in other lighting situations as well. Just don't expect the images produced to be quite as nice as in good lighting conditions.
The steadiness of the images from hand held is quite good. When I'm just standing in one place recording, I don't get any "camera shake" at all.
The images look good even when displayed with the three RCA L/R/Video cable. That cable, as well as a component cable, are furnished. A mini HDMI to HDMI cable is not furnished.
The image from the projector also looks good, once you can figure out how to use the projector. Since everything else is controlled through the on screen interface, I searched forever on that interface trying to find a way to activate the projector. It turns out that text on the unit, after you flip open the screen, which says "Projector" is not just a label, it is a button. You must start your video playing with the display, then push the Projector button on the unit's body. This is not even close to adequately explained by the manual.
The manual itself is a little spotty. Some parts of it have good explanations, some not so good. Luckily the touch interface is pretty intuitive, because with the state of the manual, if it wasn't you'd be in big trouble. LOL
The remote control is not mentioned in the manual at all. I didn't appreciate that much because I could not initially get the remote control to interact with the camera at all. I cannot find a diagram of the camera which shows the location of its receiving sensor for the remote control. Finally after trying the remote from all angles, I got it to work by pointing it at an angle toward the interface of the flip out screen and the main body of the camera, at about a 30 degree downward angle. In my experience, the camera would not respond to the remote at all from more than about three feet away from the camera. That's pretty useless. Possibly the battery as shipped was weak, possibly the battery used isn't strong enough to cover any distance. I'll try putting a new battery in it. If I improve on this I'll come back and note anything I discovered which made the improvement.
The sound quality is good. Since we haven't done any action sequences around the house with background music and explosions, I can't really compare the camera's build into 5.1 sound to what I look for in a movie. LOL However, the sounds seem accurate for what I remember. A passing jet in an outdoors sequence was picked up strongly.
I don't play much video on my computer at all. That's why I spent a lot of money on high end AV equipment. Because of the problem with the remote, for long term use for family videos and such, I would almost certainly transfer my videos via a blu ray burner and play them using my player, rather than hooking the camera up and struggling with its remote.
Battery life and video storage space included in the camera are generous, and might be all you'd ever need without buying extra batteries or memory for it.
The built in USB cable is ingeniously placed. If you have trouble finding it, it comes out of the opposite side of the unit from the flip screen and tucks into the safety strap.
I'm delighted to have access to the camera through Vine. If this was a purchase the remote issue might cause me to return it. Because of deficiencies in the manual, it might take you a while to figure out how to use all of the many fine features present in this camera, but they are there.
