(More customer reviews)I'm writing this review in response to the one-star review this product received, because I think it misrepresents the product.
I purchased the 500GB version of this ClickFree Automatic Backup External HD, and I'm quite pleased with it. It was never advertised (to me) as a tool to back up every file in every folder on your system, but with very little customization, it can do that, too.
I bought this as an automatic solution for backing up all my personal files, and out of the box it is configured to find just about every type of picture, video, document, spreadsheet, music file, etc., etc. based on industry standard file extensions. If you want to customize that default, you can. You can give it other extensions to search for. You can tell it to bypass some folders/drives entirely. You can tell it to backup everything in a specific folder/drive, regardless of extension. In short, you can tell it to back up as little or as much as YOU want. It will also maintain/remember different configurations for different computers, and it can also be set up to backup your system on a regular basis in unattended mode.
I think this is a great, relatively low-cost alternative for backing up digital files. It's much MUCH easier than burning CDs, and it's much more affordable than higher-end solutions like Apple's Time Capsule. I also like the fact that, in an emergency, I can just grab the drive and run.
I did not give this 5 stars because the initial install on Windows XP required a reboot and a reconnect (instead of a seamless plug-n-play install), and because the USB cable is too short (2 feet long, which doesn't allow for decent placement from a tower PC).
