(More customer reviews)I was the proud owner of a ContourHD 1080 camera so I was already familiar with this company's product line. So for my birthday, I decided to buy myself the new GPS version of this camera. I thoroughly read all of the reviews and read some great things about it. Plus there was the added bonus of the Bluetooth viewfinder.
WARNING! If you are thinking that the viewfinder will allow you to see what you are recording, which is what I thought when purchasing this product, then you are wrong. The viewfinder only allows you to view when you are not recording and configure the camera settings according to the environment you are using it in. Such as the brightness, contrast, and sharpness. So this turned out to be a bit of a bummer for me. Also, the video quality leaves much to be desired as well. I am fairly certain it has to do with the limitations of Bluetooth data transfer but it was still a bit of a disappointment for me.
Also, I believe they fixed this issue in their recent firmware but I was having connectivity issues with the camera and my iPhone Bluetooth.
To be fair though, they may be able to resolve all of those issues via a firmware update and the idea itself is very novel.
Bt the real problem was the video quality itself. If you go to the contour support page and search for "video quality gps" and read the thread, you will know exactly what I am talking about. Contour has recently posted that they have found out what the root cause of the video issues are and they are working on a firmware fix for it as I write this review. However, I did have to return my camera due to the fact that I really did not need it till the next snow season and I wanted to wait till the known issues were resolved before repurchasing it.
Pros: Small compared to other helmet cams in this genre
Very well made and sturdy construction, like it could withstand a few falls without any problems
Improved record button to make recording easier
The back door actually locks down now, the contour hd does not have a lock
Lasers are great for aligning the shot
Light weight
Bluetooth viewfinder
Cons: video quality issue
Bluetooth viewfinder does not work when recording
Rotating mount can shear and break off fairly easily (no damage to camera, just mount)
Overall, if they work out the video quality issues, this would be the perfect POV cam in my opinion.
