(More customer reviews)I prefer this over the GoPro Hero. I just hate looking like a tool with that camera sticking out like a 3rd arm growing out of my head. I primarily use this for extreme sports like Snowboarding, Downhill Mountain Biking, Sky diving, etc...
Pros:
- sleek design
- 3 ways to mount it & 3 ways for the lens to rotate to accommodate
- decently long battery life
- with the 32GB card it can store so much 1080p footage
- guiding lasers help out tremendously (something the GoPro doesn't have)
- comes with goggle mount which is a plus if I don't want to wear my helmet snowboarding
- comes w/ 2 sided tape attachable mount
- quick slide recording switch
- audible beeps to notify you what mode you're in
Cons:
- wind noise is ridiculous (easily fixed by adding some cloth over the mic)
- not waterproof (though it is water resistant and you can always buy the waterproof shock case)
- not as good as the GoPro in low level light
Modification:
- as mentioned cloth glued or taped over mic did not inhibit normal sound from coming in
- make your own LED light mount to slide into the rails (this eliminated the CON about low level light issues)
- make an extra lens cover out of some durable clear plastic. the lens itself will not withstand a hit from an airsoft BB at about 100ft and 350fps.
There are a bunch of side by side comparisons to the other leading helmet POV cams out there on Youtube. I watched them over and over and went with the Contour because of its low profile and sleek and easy design. Video quality for both are very similar if not the same.
In the end, I purchased this a week just before they released the news about the blue tooth functionality in the new chip for the Contour GPS. Go with that one if you don't mind the extra $$, otherwise, this will do just fine.
