(More customer reviews)Please keep in mind this is my first video camera, my digital camera takes nice video clips but its better for photos than videos; its an Olympus SP-320 and perfect for my needs, also, I've had the Genius G-Shot DV520 for three days and still learning its features.
For many months I wanted something that would take videos of just everyday stuff and if I lost it or dropped it I wouldn't be out too much money, the G-Shot DV520 I think is perfect for these needs. As another reviewer stated it isn't for someone wanting to make high quality professional videos but its good enough for just making videos of stuff. It leaves some blurriness as in tree branches but is crystal clear in other situations outdoors, indoors its pretty darn good, the included CD is essential for instructions but leaves out some information so researching is necessary, the small included manual is just enough to get up and going, for the price and quality of photos and video its perfect, by the way make sure to have or order a 2gb or up to a 8gb memory card, they are pretty reasonable through Amazon and a 8gb will allow 2 3/4 hours of HD video and 2980 photos at 11mg, the G-Shot DV520 works seamlessly with Windows 7 professional to transfer photos and videos to the computer without having to install any added programs, the built-in memory is minimal, the photo quality seems pretty good but most of my short experience is with videos, for photos I will use my Olympus camera.
I would recommend this to anyone with similar needs as mine.
Edited on 6-14-2011: I had to return this camera to the manufacturer, something was causing a rainbow effect with the photo option. It was a pleasure working with the people at Genius, they answered the phone and kept in touch by email to let me know of the status of the camera. However, in the meantime because I knew I wouldn't receive the Genius before the holiday, I purchased from Amazon a higher quality video camera, a Sanyo Xacti with a 5x optical zoom, this is probably what I wanted in the first place because it has optical zoom, big difference, of course its much more expensive too. I would recommend the Genius if that is your price range, I am happier with the Xacti, it just happens to have worked out that way for me. Genius did send me a new unit which I promptly returned to Amazon, Amazon is the best because they make things so easy and they stand behind their reputation!
